How to Draw Lineart in Photoshop

lineartphotoshop

Happy Art Video Friday!

Since my camera is dead (see my Kickstarter), I decided to make a video on digitalizing your hand drawn work. I am still very new to the realm of digitalizing my artwork. To me, nothing is better than my pencils, paper, canvases, and paintbrushes. With that said, I still understand and see the value of digitally drawn artwork. It can can be manipulated for a vast amount of products, it’s easier to distribute, and lets be honest, it can look just freaking awesome. So today, here is a tutorial on tracing over your hand drawn lineart and drawing lineart into photoshop — the second step into making your artwork digital. (The first would be scanning it into the computer!)

Keep in mind I AM still new to this process, so you see me make a lot of mistakes and that is okay! I’m here to share my growth and journey and give you the knowledge I learn along the way. Take it, use it as you wish, and keep practicing.

See you Monday with a gaming video (then Wednesday with a Vlog),
~Pamela

PS – If you are wondering who I’m drawing, she is a character from a comic series I wrote. She looks odd, yes? 🙂 heehee.

How to Win Smite Arena with Freya

freyaarena

Freya is a powerful character in Smite. It’s important to learn when to go all out and when to be defensive. Early game is the best time to quietly sit back, use her #2 ability, and farm minions & camps. You’ll get ahead in levels and can later blast away the enemy team during late game.

Try this method out and tell me how it works out for you.

sketchbook comparison and drawing what you love

I was unpacking some of my art supplies the other day and came across a bunch of different sketchbooks. I don’t know about you, but when I was in elementary school all the way through high school, I did NOTHING but draw. Every. Single. DAY. I really enjoyed going through my old sketchbooks because the drawings were more complete. Most of them were colored and I could tell a lot of love went into each sketch, colored or not.

I then found a few sketches I did about 6 years later and while I saw growth, I was disappointed because that same love and attention didn’t seem to be in the drawings anymore. I had also hoped over 6+ years I’d be much better. I got a little frustrated and put the sketchbooks aside. I couldn’t help but wonder why I didn’t become extremely better in 6+ years and why my drawings no longer had that feeling of love in them. Obviously, there was growth but not as much as I hoped.

artex2

After a little thought, I realized that somewhere in college I stopped making art for fun. I LOVED drawing my favorite characters from anime, live action shows, and game characters. But I also remembered that cartoons and comics were not seen as real art in college. I felt ashamed sometimes when I’d draw cartoons instead of something else…anything else. I also stopped drawing daily about that time. Which I can conclude is why I didn’t improve as much as I would have wanted over 6+ years; I stopped practicing! I let others tell me what was art. I became ashamed by what I was drawing, then discouraged, and didn’t draw as much anymore.

My best advice for any artist out there is to not let others tell you what is and isn’t art. Keep drawing, painting, or creating what drives you. If you let others dictate “what is art,” you can loose your drive and passion. If this has already happened to you, I challenge you today to make what you consider art. Also, don’t beat yourself up if you’re not improving as fast as you like. We all grow, learn, and change at difference paces. 🙂

How to Draw Minecraft Skeleton in Pencil and Marker

minecraftskele

It’s Friday upload day! In case you haven’t caught on, every Friday is when I release new videos (typically around noon to 3pm eastern). So don’t forget to check back on my channel on Fridays  :). Today I’m drawing a requested video.. how to draw a Minecraft skeleton. This is for the many of you who asked for me to draw this. If you have any other drawing or painting requests (Minecraft related or not) leave it in the comments section. The drawing tutorial is pretty much, step by step. When it comes to the coloring part, have at least 3 different grey markers (or whatever you choose to color with). Start with the darkest grey and color in the squares you want the darkest grey, then move on to the medium grey and color whatever boxes you want medium grey, then lastly use your lightest grey on the remaining boxes. Simple! The only boxes you must have in the right place are the eyes, nose and mouth. Every other box can be colored whatever shade of grey you want.

Since it’s near Halloween, I’ll give you a little idea… if you make the square piece of paper big enough, you could use your final drawing as a mask! You can use a hole punch on either side of the piece of paper and then add string to tie around your head. 😉

Let me know what you want to see next week,
~Pamela

Let’s Paint the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland

REDQUEEN

Hey there! I want a change of scenery today, and by that I mean I want to paint instead of draw. I haven’t painted in over 6 months!! Ahhh! It’s been too long. I used to be big into oil painting for years and then I started to dabble in acrylic painting (a little) and then.. six months went by without painting. It’s terrible! I think I may love painting more than drawing. I’m not sure how it’s possible, because me and drawing… let me tell you.. we are bff. But yes, I think I love painting more these days. With that said, I have a lot of painting practice to do. OUCH. While I don’t think my painting turned out poorly, it was not what I was envisioning. Don’t you hate that sometimes? You have this image in your head and it doesn’t come out quite the way you expect. Oh well, that’s we practice and practice and practice and..oh did I mention practice? 🙂

I hope you enjoy watching me paint my version of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland (which was actually inspired by the Red Queen in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland). Watch out for the little tips that pop up on the screen. I shared some of my color mixing secrets ^_^.

Let me know what you want to see next time!
