How to Draw and Paint a Gemstone Jewel

gemstone

Happy Friday! I have another step-by-step tutorial out for you to draw and paint along with me. (This is not just a speed draw / speed paint video). There are tips at the bottom of the video that can help you draw and paint this pretty garnet or ruby jewel too.

I painted this in acrylic paint, so grab yours and lets do this art project together!

** Don’t be afraid to use your fingers with acrylic paint, especially when you’re working with the background. Using your fingers can help take the seriousness out of painting and make the experience more relaxing. 🙂

Have fun and tweet a picture of your finished gemstone jewel @artistrage with the hashtag #ARartshow. With the hashtag, we can all see each other’s work!

See you next Friday with a new video,

~Pamela

Painting Champagne Glasses for New Years in Acrylic Paint

champagneglasses

Hey there! I’m Pamela and I’m painting champagne glasses inspired by my recent New Years activities. I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands, so I decided to not paint in a realistic style, and instead leaned towards an abstracted feel. I used simple lines and colors to describe the objects I’m painting. What’s fascinating about this kind of style is our minds can fill in the gaps and still figure out what the image is. I enjoy thinking about color usage and the texture of the paint when creating in this style.

Like I said, I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands when I sat down to paint. Sometimes when we don’t have a lot of time it can also be hard to be inspired to even pull out the supplies. I honestly wasn’t “in the mood” when I first sat down to paint. But, once I got in the rhythm, about 5-10 minutes in, I was inspired and worked faster and more clearly. So, keep that in mind next time you’re thinking about painting. Just because you may not be “in the mood” or particularly inspired at that very second, doesn’t mean you won’t be the moment you start moving your brush across the canvas. You’ll become focused on where to put your brush and what colors you want to use… and ideas, or even emotions, may start popping in your head. 🙂

Let’s Paint the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland

REDQUEEN

Hey there! I want a change of scenery today, and by that I mean I want to paint instead of draw. I haven’t painted in over 6 months!! Ahhh! It’s been too long. I used to be big into oil painting for years and then I started to dabble in acrylic painting (a little) and then.. six months went by without painting. It’s terrible! I think I may love painting more than drawing. I’m not sure how it’s possible, because me and drawing… let me tell you.. we are bff. But yes, I think I love painting more these days. With that said, I have a lot of painting practice to do. OUCH. While I don’t think my painting turned out poorly, it was not what I was envisioning. Don’t you hate that sometimes? You have this image in your head and it doesn’t come out quite the way you expect. Oh well, that’s we practice and practice and practice and..oh did I mention practice? 🙂

I hope you enjoy watching me paint my version of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland (which was actually inspired by the Red Queen in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland). Watch out for the little tips that pop up on the screen. I shared some of my color mixing secrets ^_^.

Let me know what you want to see next time!
