How to Be a Better Artist and Changes with Artist Rage March 2015

I’ve had a lot of changes in my life over the past few months and its made me rethink my goals and rearrange my schedule. I LOVE being apart of the YouTube community. I don’t only make videos for YouTube. I also watch and interact with other YouTubers. It’s a great place to be entertained, to learn, and to make friends. With that said, I know that I want to continue creating content for YouTube, it’s just that lately, it’s been more difficult.. and with my life changes I KNEW it’d be difficult.

My biggest challenge has been creating my own artwork while also doing the “extra” artwork for YouTube content. I’ve decided I’m going to merge the two. This means I’ll be making videos of what I want to do and what I create instead of user requested videos. I’m going to call this a “trail period” and set a goal for 3 months. For 3 months I’ll be doing videos this way. If you guys still want me to make “How to Draw” and “How to Paint” videos, don’t be afraid during this time to tell me what you want to see!

I’m not sure how this is going to turn out… but 3 months isn’t terribly long. Lets see how this goes 🙂

I thought my shift in video direction was also a good time to talk about how to be a better artist. Towards the end of the video I talk about this and break my advice down to beginners, intermediate, and advanced artists. Watch and find out what you can do!

See you next Sunday with a new video!

How to Draw Flappy Bird in Pencil

fbpromo

Happy Sunday! So, it looks like I’m uploading on Sunday’s now. I get home too late on Fridays to upload videos. Ahem, but that’s ok. I’m still creating new content weekly, just on a new upload day. With that said, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/artistrage or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ArtistRage because I update daily on those. I DO have a tumblr and google+ page, but those are usually only updated on the days I upload. That may change in the near future, but not at this moment. :/

Once you connect with me on these social sites, you can share your drawings, paintings, and DIY creations with me and others in the Artist Rage community. You can use #ARartshow to tag and show off what you’ve done! Make sure to see what others are doing and inspire them to continue creating. Everyone here is of all skill levels and ages so lets be positive, help, and encourage each other to not stop making art! Art is an amazing outlet.

This week’s art video is another beginner drawing series and may be target more for kids, beginners, someone looking to make a Flappy Bird wall hanging for a bedroom / office space, or anyone who loves Flappy Bird.

If you want to see more intermediate or advance tutorials, make sure to give a shout out in the comments and tell me what YOU want to see me draw or what YOU want to learn to draw, paint or create!

If you don’t want to waste your time drawing the grid to do today’s tutorial, you can print out this grid I made, place it under your paper, and trace it. Number the grid so you know where each square should go to draw Flappy Bird.

DOWNLOAD THE PRINTABLE GRID GUIDE FOR FLAPPY BIRD HERE: http://artistrage.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/flappybird_grid.jpg

Have fun and see you next week with a new art-like video!

DIY Valentines Day Card Box

vdaybox

Valentines Day is around the corner, so why not make something for it? Today I’m doing a DIY Valentines Day card box craft. This is really cute as a decoration, for a school project, or for a card box to sit on your desk at school! All you have to do is think about what you want your box to look like, go out and find the supplies, and then put it all together!Take a look at the supplies I have in the video to get an idea of what you need to make your box.

My friend and I made two different kind of heart shaped card boxes. I made one with a chalkboard theme and she made her box with a cake theme in mind. What kind of theme do you have in mind for your card box? Let me know in the comments!

See you next week with another video,

How to Draw and Paint a Gemstone Jewel

gemstone

Happy Friday! I have another step-by-step tutorial out for you to draw and paint along with me. (This is not just a speed draw / speed paint video). There are tips at the bottom of the video that can help you draw and paint this pretty garnet or ruby jewel too.

I painted this in acrylic paint, so grab yours and lets do this art project together!

** Don’t be afraid to use your fingers with acrylic paint, especially when you’re working with the background. Using your fingers can help take the seriousness out of painting and make the experience more relaxing. 🙂

Have fun and tweet a picture of your finished gemstone jewel @artistrage with the hashtag #ARartshow. With the hashtag, we can all see each other’s work!

See you next Friday with a new video,

~Pamela

Drawing and Coloring Sailor Venus Fanart

thumbsvenus

Happy Friday! Yep, I’m uploading the video in the afternoon today. I’ve been busier than usual, but don’t worry. It’s here ^_^. Eariler this week, I was watching the new Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon Crystal. It really inspired me to draw Sailor Moon, which I did, and then I asked all of you how I should color her on all of my social media outlets. Many of you voted for color pencils, so I colored my Sailor Moon sketch in Prismacolor color pencils. I was really happy with how it turned out and decided to draw another Sailor Moon Crystal character… Sailor Venus! I hope you enjoy this speed drawing and coloring I did. This video is a little longer than my recent videos because I didn’t speed it up as fast as I usually do. Maybe you can learn more this way.

Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, and Twitter to get extra updates from me! Give this video thumbs up and subscribe.. and I’ll see you next Friday with another art tutorial.

Painting Champagne Glasses for New Years in Acrylic Paint

champagneglasses

Hey there! I’m Pamela and I’m painting champagne glasses inspired by my recent New Years activities. I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands, so I decided to not paint in a realistic style, and instead leaned towards an abstracted feel. I used simple lines and colors to describe the objects I’m painting. What’s fascinating about this kind of style is our minds can fill in the gaps and still figure out what the image is. I enjoy thinking about color usage and the texture of the paint when creating in this style.

Like I said, I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands when I sat down to paint. Sometimes when we don’t have a lot of time it can also be hard to be inspired to even pull out the supplies. I honestly wasn’t “in the mood” when I first sat down to paint. But, once I got in the rhythm, about 5-10 minutes in, I was inspired and worked faster and more clearly. So, keep that in mind next time you’re thinking about painting. Just because you may not be “in the mood” or particularly inspired at that very second, doesn’t mean you won’t be the moment you start moving your brush across the canvas. You’ll become focused on where to put your brush and what colors you want to use… and ideas, or even emotions, may start popping in your head. 🙂

Happy New Years! Don’t forget to download the Artist Rage inspirational calendar: http://artistrage.com/?attachment_id=925

Drawing Elsa and Anna Winter Holiday from FROZEN

frozen

It’s Friday art video time! You guys voted for what you wanted me to draw for Christmas and you voted for a reindeer: http://youtu.be/_GhOFT_I6Ro and Disney Christmas, which for that theme I decided to draw something FROZEN related! I started this drawing while having coffee and I really liked it, so I decided to film myself finishing the piece.

Don’t forget to like the video and while you’re at it, subscribe, so we can keep drawing and making art together.

Let me know what you want to see next week!

Happy Holidays,
~Pamela
